Judges select the 2014 Falletta Concerto Competition Semifinalists

Notes from the semifinalist judges about the two-day selection process.

The Preliminary Round of the 2014 Falletta Concerto Competition is now complete with some very interesting results.  The process, though interesting and enjoyable is quite arduous in that the level of applicants is consistently high.  We were very excited this time to hear two new concerti in the mix, the Brouwer Elegiaco and the Cordero Antillano.  And...these two applicants advanced to the Semifinal Round so our Buffalo Audience will hear these two marvelous works for the very first time. The free choice repertoire was also quite revealing, varied and compelling.  The process resulted in eight Semifinalists representing eight countries.  This is also a first. In addition, each edition of the Falletta Competition is attracting more and more applicants who submit their preliminary round performance with orchestra.  This speaks volumes about the level of players that are coming.
