Dates announced for the 2014 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition.
Although the exciting 2012 competition wrapped up a little over four months ago, the planning for the 2014 competition has already started and the dates are in place.
The 2014 competition week begins Sunday, June 1, when the competitors arrive and the excitement really starts to build.. Two days of rehearsals, with the semifinals scheduled for Wednesday, June 4th and Thursday, June 5th. For the first time in 2012, the semifinals were broadcast live on WNED and both evenings received very high marks from competitors, judges and the audience. Similar live broadcasts are in the works for 2014.
The high anticipated final, where the top three competitors perform with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Falletta, will take place Saturday night June 7th, at Kleinhans Music Hall. The winner, chosen by an elite panel of judges, takes home the top prize of $10,000 and other prizes.
There is a lot on the line at the finals, and in 2014, the rewards will be even greater- The winner will also have a future date to perform at Carnegie Hall!
Always looking to add excitement and value to the competition, Artistic Directors Joanne Castellani and Michael Andriaccio and presenters WNED and the BPO, are considering additional public performances for the semifinalists in 2014, as well as additional events during the off year ( 2013) to introduce more people to the classical guitar and increase interest in the 2014 competition.
